In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Qi is considered the vital life force that flows through channels or meridians in the body. It is the foundation of all bodily functions, including physical, mental, and emotional. Qi is the dynamic and interconnected energy that sustains and animates all living beings.
TCM teaches the Five Elements theory which provides a framework for understanding the interplay between emotions and organs. Each element – Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water – is associated with specific organs, meridians (energy pathways), and emotions. When emotions become excessive or prolonged, they can disrupt the flow of Qi (energy), leading to imbalances in specific organs and meridians. Several circumstances and occurrences can impact our Qi balance including:
- Diet:ย The lack of essential nutrients or excessive amounts of sugar or unhealthy fats can negatively impact Qi and contribute to imbalances in your energy system.
- Exhaustion:ย Working too much, chronic fatigue, and irregular routines can deplete Qi resources and hinder its smooth circulation.
