In April, 2021 the final rules for Public Act 140 were written and signed!! These new rules change the profession of Acupuncture from voluntary registration to requiring a license in order to practice in Michigan.
By providing licensure to acupuncturists, residents of Michigan gain a safe, effective and more consistent treatment from professionally educated and trained acupuncturists. Licensure supports the recognition of acupuncture as a credible and viable profession.
Michigan has been one of the last states to license acupuncture and it has been a long journey with many local acupuncturists donating time, money and other resources to make this happen! For as long as I have been in practice in Michigan, acupuncturists have been advocating for licensure and have overcome many obstacles.
We could not have done this without the support of many of our patients who, over the years, have written letters to their senators and local representatives, contacted their insurance companies to educate them about coverage and traveled to the state capital for Acupuncture Day each year.
Thank you everyone for your ongoing support of our profession!
